Ghana has granted citizenship to US YouTuber IShowSpeed as the influencer concludes a month-long tour of Africa.
IShowSpeed Granted Ghanaian Citizenship
Foreign Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa announced Monday that the government has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed, following “confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana.” The minister stated, “Keep making our great nation Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud. Ghana celebrates you.”
Darren Jason Watkins Jr., known as IShowSpeed, is a 21-year-old African American influencer born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He currently has over 50 million YouTube subscribers and was named the Most Influential Creator of 2025 by Rolling Stone magazine.
Forbes estimates IShowSpeed’s net worth at $20 million. His recent tour of Africa, which began on December 29, included visits to 20 countries.
During his travels, IShowSpeed visited a diamond mine in Botswana, explored Ethiopian cuisine, and attended the Africa Cup of Nations football final in Morocco. His coverage of the continent has resonated with his followers, with some Black Americans sharing emotional reactions, stating that his content offered a new perspective on Africa, differing from common media portrayals.
