Casualties and Conflict Background

Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry states at least 529 people have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began. The Israeli military reports four of its soldiers have been killed in Palestinian attacks during the same period.

The current conflict was triggered by a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and the abduction of 251 hostages.

Israel responded with a military campaign in Gaza, during which the territory’s health ministry reports more than 71,800 people have been killed.
