A former caregiver at a Potomac, Maryland, assisted-living facility has been charged with the murder of an 87-year-old resident and the attempted murder of a Maryland State Trooper. The incidents occurred earlier this week, prompting a police investigation and leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Killing of Resident and Attempted Trooper Assault
Police responded to reports of shots fired at the senior living facility on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered an 87-year-old man deceased and initiated a search for the suspect, identified as a former employee of the facility.
During the search, the suspect allegedly fired at a Maryland State Trooper, who was not injured. A subsequent pursuit led to the suspect’s arrest.
Millionaire Philanthropist Identified
The victim has been identified as a millionaire philanthropist. Authorities have not released further details regarding the motive for the killing.
The suspect also allegedly shot a caregiver at the facility before fleeing the scene. The condition of the caregiver is currently unknown.
