Werewolf Syndrome: Teen’s Rare Hairy Face Story

A man has been recognized by Guinness World Records for having the most body hair in the world, a condition known as hypertrichosis. The rare genetic condition has also allowed him to build a substantial following on social media, where he shares his life experiences.

What is Hypertrichosis?

Being born with hypertrichosis is exceedingly rare. The earliest reported case was Petrus Gonsalvus, a gentleman in the court of Henry II of France in 1556, who was nicknamed “man of the woods” and whose story inspired the fairy tale Beauty and The Beast.

Developing hypertrichosis can also occur later in life, though it remains uncommon. One instance involved 17 children in Spain who developed the condition after taking contaminated drugs. Symptoms typically resolve when the medication is stopped.

Embracing Uniqueness

The individual, who has not been named in this report, has embraced his condition, amassing 269,000 followers on Instagram and 106,000 on YouTube. He described receiving the Guinness World Record as a “proud moment.”

“One of my happiest moments was when I travelled to Italy for the first time,” he said. “It was my first time sitting on a plane, and I felt like my dream of travelling the world was starting to come true. It was a very special moment for me, and I cannot fully describe how I felt in words.”

Challenges and Treatments

Despite embracing his uniqueness, the condition presents daily challenges. “For example, it can affect eating, seeing clearly, and even hearing properly at times,” he explained, adding that he has learned to manage these difficulties.

He has considered surgical options to reduce the excess hair “because I want to be friends with everyone,” but currently, limited solutions are available. Short-term treatments include waxing and plucking, while laser surgery offers a longer-term, though incomplete, solution.

“I see it as something that makes me special, and it has become a part of who I am,” he said.
