Parts of the Greater Toronto Area remain under a freezing rain warning Friday, despite the official start of spring.
Freezing Rain Warning for GTA
A special weather statement from Environment Canada has ended for Toronto, but yellow alerts remain in effect for areas in York, Peel, and Halton regions. Freezing rain is expected to change to rain near noon as temperatures rise above zero.
The national weather agency’s advisory warns that roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery, with a risk of injury due to slips and falls. Local utility outages are also possible.
The inclement weather is expected to continue until early afternoon, when the precipitation will switch to rain. CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said warmer winds will transition the precipitation to rain over the region by midday, with showers easing through the midafternoon.
Toronto will see a high of 6 C on Friday. Cloudy skies and a high of 5 C are forecast for Saturday, with rain and a high of 6 C expected on Sunday.
