Several homes were evacuated late Saturday night after a two-alarm fire broke out at a residence in Etobicoke. Emergency crews responded to the scene near Dundas Street West and Royal York Road shortly after 10 p.m.
Etobicoke House Fire Prompts Evacuations
Firefighters initially attempted to extinguish the blaze with an “aggressive interior attack,” but transitioned to a defensive strategy after flames compromised the second floor of the two-storey home, according to Platoon Chief Steven Buckingham.
“We adopted what we would call a defensive attack and were protecting the exposures on both sides,” Buckingham told reporters at the scene. “Thankfully the rear was in a park area and the house was set back.”
Images from the location showed significant flames and heavy smoke emanating from the roof.
Crews were able to control the fire within a few hours. Paramedics assessed two individuals at the scene, but no one required hospitalization. No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
