Images circulating on social media appear to show the wreckage of an American aircraft and a helicopter rotor in Isfahan, Iran, following a U.S. operation to rescue a missing airman. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened further action if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
Wreckage Images Emerge
Images first shared on social media have been verified by Reuters as originating from Isfahan, Iran. Forensic imagery analyst William Goodhind told Reuters the images appeared consistent with a US MC‑130J or HC‑130J aircraft.
Residential Building Hit in Northern Israel
A residential building in Haifa, northern Israel, was reportedly hit by an Iranian missile. Images of the scene were released by MDA, Israel’s national emergency medical service. Israeli paramedics are treating nine patients, including an elderly man in serious condition.
Trump Issues Threats
US President Donald Trump has continued to issue threats against Iran, stating in interviews that a deal is possible but warning of severe consequences if concessions are not made. He told Fox News he could “take” the country’s oil and, in an interview with ABC News US, said the conflict should be over in days, but warned “we’re blowing up the whole country” if it is not, stating there is “very little” off the table.
Iranian Media Releases Images
Iranian media has published images and video purporting to show destroyed US aircraft during the recent rescue operation of a missing F-15 crew member in Iran. The images, released by Sepahnews, the official website of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, show wreckage at a site Iran’s state TV claims is where an American transport plane and two helicopters crashed in Isfahan province. Reuters verified the location and topography of the images.
The New York Times reported that two US transport planes used in the rescue became stuck, leading US commanders to destroy them to prevent them falling into Iranian hands. Washington has not released any details.
Iran and Strait of Hormuz
Iran is reportedly charging ships from “friendly countries” a fee to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, effectively establishing a maritime tollbooth. Some shipping companies are paying the fee, while most are avoiding the strait. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned that attacks against US economic interests in the region would be intensified if attacks on civilian targets in Iran are repeated.
