Murder probe launched as man dies after attack in Stockbridge Village chippy

A Stockbridge Village murder investigation has been launched after a 54-year-old man died on Tuesday, April 21, following an assault at a local chip shop.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, inside The Village Chippy, located off Leach Croft. The victim was transported to a hospital with a serious head injury, and the incident was reported to police the following day by the North West Ambulance Service.

Specialist officers are currently supporting the man’s family while a post-mortem investigation is conducted to establish the official cause of death.

Suspect Remains on Bail

A 25-year-old man from Stockbridge Village has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent. He currently remains on conditional bail.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings urged anyone who was inside the establishment at the time of the attack to come forward with information.

“I know people living in the local community will be understandably upset and concerned, but I want them to be reassured that we are thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Cummings said.
