US President Donald Trump expects negotiations with Iran to begin as soon as Friday, following his decision to extend a temporary US-Iran ceasefire.

  • Talks could take place within 36 to 72 hours, according to Pakistani sources.
  • The ceasefire extension is contingent upon Iranian officials submitting a “unified proposal.”
  • The US blockade on the Strait of Hormuz remains in effect.

Conditions for US-Iran Ceasefire Extension

President Trump announced the decision to extend the temporary ceasefire, which was scheduled to expire Wednesday. He stated the move was based on requests from Pakistani officials and the fact that the Government of Iran is “seriously fractured.”

When asked via text message about the timing of potential talks, Trump responded, “It’s possible! President DJT.”

Strategic Blockade Continues

Despite the extension of the ceasefire, the US will maintain its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. Trump clarified that this strategic measure remains in place while the two nations move toward potential discussions.

Prediction Market Outlook

Data from the prediction market Polymarket suggests a low probability that the ceasefire will be officially extended through a formal agreement between the US and Iran by the end of Wednesday.

According to the platform, there is a 20% chance of an official extension by April 22. Polymarket users currently maintain several active bets regarding the region, including the status of the Strait of Hormuz, the conclusion of Operation Epic Fury, and the possibility of the Islamic regime collapsing.
