Ukrainian security forces launched a drone strike against a Federal Security Service (FSB) coordination center located in a resort in occupied Kherson Oblast on July 20. The operation, involving 13 drones, reportedly targeted a facility housing approximately 100 Russian military personnel and significant technical infrastructure.
Strike on the Kherson Oblast FSB Facility
Special forces from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Central Special Operations Center, known as “Alpha,” executed the operation against a Russian FSB installation situated within a resort in the occupied territory of Kherson Oblast. The facility functioned as both a coordination center and a deployment point for FSB personnel.
The SBU reported that the site was heavily fortified. Intelligence gathering conducted by the agency prior to the strike confirmed the presence of over 70 vehicles, armed guards, functioning checkpoints, and established engineering defenses, including underground shelters. The attack utilized 13 drones, which resulted in a large-scale fire at the location.
Strategic Impact and Operational Goals
Ukrainian authorities stated that the strike is part of a broader effort to diminish Russia’s military and economic potential. The SBU emphasized that such operations are designed to disrupt coordination systems and force Russian forces to divert resources toward the protection of their own facilities, thereby complicating logistics and the provision of supplies to FSB units. The service noted that these operations inflict tangible losses on the enemy in temporarily occupied territories.

According to the SBU, the mission was conducted in accordance with tasks set by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, aimed at reducing the military and economic potential of the aggressor state.
Broader Campaign by the Unmanned Systems Forces
The operation in Kherson Oblast occurred amidst a wider campaign conducted by the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) of Ukraine. On the same night of July 20, the USF carried out a series of strikes across multiple regions. Specifically, the forces struck seven vessels belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet” in the Black and Azov Seas. This included three tankers and four dry cargo ships.
Furthermore, the Defense Forces targeted seven energy hubs and electrical substations located in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. These strikes impacted infrastructure in Yalta, Morske, Pryvitne, Luchyste, and other settlements. Additionally, the operation resulted in the destruction of six air defense components belonging to the Russian occupiers, located in Yeysk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Kamyshevatskaya.
