2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 Debuts With 603-HP V8 and Enhanced Luxury

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680: Enhanced Power and Luxury

Mercedes-Maybach unveiled the updated 2027 GLS 680 on July 20, 2026, featuring a more powerful 603-hp V8 engine, an illuminated radiator grille, and enhanced rear-seat massage functions. The flagship SUV, which includes advanced suspension technology and a new infotainment interface, is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year. This vehicle has anchored the top of the luxury SUV segment since its 2019 debut, and this generation pushes further in every direction: more expressive exterior design, a more powerful electrified V8, upgraded suspension tech, and a new infotainment platform powered by MB.OS.

Markus Bauer, Head of Mercedes-Maybach at Mercedes-Benz AG, characterized the new model by stating: It combines effortless power with commanding presence. Every detail has been shaped to enhance comfort and serenity — in a way that feels unmistakably Maybach.

Performance Upgrades: The 603-HP V8 Engine

At the heart of the 2027 GLS 680 is a significantly revised powertrain. The vehicle utilizes the latest evolution of the M 177 Evo twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. This engine now produces 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque—an increase of 53 hp and 89 lb-ft over the outgoing model.

To improve refinement, engineers added two Lanchester balance shafts, which help the engine respond more sharply to accelerator inputs while running more efficiently. The system is further supported by a second-generation 48-volt integrated starter generator (ISG 2.0). This mild-hybrid component contributes 23 hp of boost, enables coasting and recuperation, and manages the start-stop function without any perceptible interruption. Additionally, a revised steering system with a more direct ratio rounds out the dynamics package, delivering more immediate response whether the vehicle is threading city traffic or covering ground on an open road.

Design and Illuminated Features

Visually, the new Maybach GLS distinguishes itself with a more imposing front end. A redesigned Maybach-specific radiator grille now features an illuminated surround, and for the first time on a GLS model, the “MAYBACH” name is subtly lit within the grille itself. Customers can also opt for an illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz hood star—another first for this model. New twin-star DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps carry Rose Gold accents, and a sleek black panel ties the headlamps and grille into one cohesive unit.

The exterior updates extend to the rear, where a redesigned tailgate visually connects the new taillights and emphasizes the vehicle’s width. The light clusters themselves feature three-dimensional star motifs, each framed in chrome. For those seeking bespoke aesthetics, the SUV offers new exterior color options including Dark Petrol, MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red Metallic, and an exclusive Dark Petrol / Verde Silver Metallic two-tone finish. The standard wheels are 22 inches with a 20-hole design, while optional 23-inch forged wheels are available, equipped with a precision ball-bearing mechanism that keeps the Mercedes-Benz center star perfectly upright as the wheel rotates.

Interior Comfort and Infotainment

Inside the cabin, the focus remains on passenger serenity. Like the standard GLS, the Maybach features the MBUX Superscreen, the automaker’s triple-display setup, which runs on the latest version of the automaker’s infotainment software. The interior is accented with Rose Gold dials and illuminated outer climate control air vents.

The seating experience has been improved with enhanced massaging functionality for both first- and second-row passengers. Audio is handled by an enhanced Burmester 3D Surround System with Dolby Atmos. The audio system now features two additional speakers, for a total of 15, and a more powerful 710-watt amplifier.

Suspension and Market Availability

The Maybach comes standard with Airmatic air suspension. Furthermore, buyers will be able to opt for the automaker’s new E-Active Body Control, which actively controls spring and damper forces to counteract roll, pitch, and lift. The system incorporates intelligent, predictive damper control.

While Mercedes-Benz has not released official pricing for the 2027 update, the 2026 Maybach GLS with a 550-hp V8 has a $181,350 starting price, including the destination charge. Industry observers expect the automaker will likely increase the model’s price, with estimates suggesting it could cost $185,000 or more. The updated Maybach GLS will begin arriving at dealerships later this year.
