Microsoft Expands Middenmeer Datacenter Campus to Support AI Growth

Expansion Driven by AI and Data Sovereignty

The decision to expand Microsoft’s presence in the Wieringermeer region is rooted in a sharp increase in hardware requirements for artificial intelligence. The relationship between Microsoft and the community in Hollands Kroon has historically been strained. Since the company announced its first datacenter in 2013, residents have frequently protested the rapid industrialization of the landscape.
