Anna Moesch Breaks American Record in Women’s 100-Meter Freestyle

Anna Moesch continued her meteoric rise by lowering her own American record in the women’s 100m freestyle, clocking 51.88 seconds to win the national title. Olympic gold medalist Simone Manuel held the previous standard of 52.04 from the 2019 World Championships.

Moesch’s time stands as the fifth-fastest in history globally. Only Dutchwoman Marrit Steenbergen—who owns the world record at 51.68 set at the Sette Colli meet in Rome—and former world record holder Sarah Sjöström of Sweden have swam faster. Just two years prior, Moesch faced a daunting recovery from surgery in late 2022 to repair a torn medial patellofemoral ligament in her left knee. Reflecting on her technical progression, Moesch said on the NBC Sports broadcast in Irvine, California, Think I’ve changed a lot about every part of my stroke, my kick, my stroke, my underwaters, my start. I’m really learning how to piece them all together.

Her collegiate coach at the University of Virginia, Todd DeSorbo, had predicted high achievements early on. When Moesch matriculated in 2024, DeSorbo told her that he thought she could break the American record in the long course 100m free. Moesch admitted she initially responded by thinking, I kind of was like, yeah, OK, sure.

Caeleb Dressel Claims First National Meet Win Since 2022

In the men’s 100-meter freestyle final, nine-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel triumphed to claim his first victory in the event at a national meet since the 2022 trials. It also marked his first individual win at a top-level meet since the 2024 Olympic Trials 50m free, having sat out the 2025 Nationals.

Dressel’s victory followed a competitive morning preliminary session where four swimmers broke the 48-second threshold. Brooks Curry led the prelims with a 47.56, closely followed by Patrick Sammon (47.83), Maximus Williamson (47.93), and Dressel (47.98). Dressel’s morning swim marked his first sub-48-second outing since the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, while Williamson’s performance broke a three-year-old lifetime best.

Bellard Holds Off Sims in Women’s 200 Butterfly

The women’s 200 butterfly A final featured a dominant 1-2 finish by University of Michigan swimmers, with Hannah Bellard capturing the national title in 2:06.86. Bellard successfully held off her college teammate Bella Sims, who touched the wall second in 2:07.19. Texas swimmer Lindsay Looney finished third in 2:07.26, followed by Tennessee’s Emily Brown (2:08.25) and California’s Rachel Klinker (2:08.59).

Earlier in the program, Audrey Derivaux won the 18-under final in 2:07.86. Although her time would have placed fourth in the A final, competing in the dedicated youth heat earned her qualification for the upcoming Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
