New York Giants Complete First Four Days of Training Camp at The Greenbrier

As the New York Giants wrap up their first four days of training camp at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, key players including Abdul Carter and Odell Beckham Jr. are generating intense early attention ahead of the upcoming 2026 NFL preseason.

The Greenbrier Training Camp Setting and Practice Pace

The New York Giants are holding their training camp at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, enjoying a scenic backdrop of lush mountains and crisp mornings. While the setting offers fresh air and open spaces, it also comes with practical drawbacks. The club is training without an indoor practice bubble, leaving them exposed to expected rainy conditions ahead, and the facility’s designated turf field is carved into a steep mountainside and described as dangerous to access, keeping the team entirely on the grass fields.

Despite weather and facility hurdles, head coach John Harbaugh and his staff have established a brisk, structured tempo. After opening with special teams and individual drills, the daily schedule pivots directly into fast-moving 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 periods designed to simulate distinct game situations without walk-through lulls. Wide receiver Darius Slayton praised the practice rhythm, noting that mixing and matching personnel keeps players fresh and prevents the fatigue that accumulates during long, unbroken stretches of reps.

“Practice has been at a great pace, but I feel like, again, we’ve done such a good job of mixing and matching guys that it allows for people to be able to play fast and play hard,” Darius Slayton said. “Ultimately, you stack more explosive reps. You don’t get into as many of those, six or seven, eight reps in a row, the reality is by the time you get seven, eight reps in, you’re fried. I definitely think that’s been great.”

Abdul Carter and Defensive Standouts Early in Camp

Second-year edge defender Abdul Carter has commanded attention during the opening week. Following a 4.0-sack rookie campaign, Carter has set lofty personal targets for his sophomore year. When asked about his goals for the current season, Abdul Carter stated his goal to Be Defensive Player of the Year, for sure.

Operating without pads during the initial days, Carter has frequently broken into the backfield. His performance includes notable matchups against standout left tackle Andrew Thomas. Elsewhere on the defensive front, Kayvon Thibodeaux has spent time rotating with both the first and second units, deployed both on the edge and as an interior pass rusher in a role reminiscent of former Giants defensive lineman Justin Tuck. Additionally, rookie inside linebacker Arvell Reese and fellow linebacker Tremaine Edmunds have disrupted the middle of the field, logging pass breakups and interceptions that forced second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart to throw with caution.

Odell Beckham Jr. Highlights a Crowded Wide Receiver Battle

The wide receiver room features heavy competition as several veterans vie for roster spots. Saturday marked the largest fan turnout of the summer at The Greenbrier, with approximately 2,000 spectators on hand to witness Odell Beckham Jr. secure the standout offensive play of the camp so far. Beckham reeled in a contested, leaping touchdown catch in the back of the end zone during 11-on-11 drills, throwing the crowd of approximately 2,000 fans into a loud ovation.

Prior to Beckham’s surge, veteran wide receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios consistently stood out by hauling in multiple receptions each day. Meanwhile, rookie Malik Nabers returned to the practice field following a day of rest and looked sharp running routes as he continues his recovery from a severe knee injury that required multiple surgeries. Head coach John Harbaugh evaluated the session positively, observing that [Saturday] seemed like a good day from what I can tell.

“There’s a lot of really good football players in our room right now,” wide receiver Darius Slayton said. “From a competition-level standpoint, it’s … raised the competition level.”

Jaxson Dart’s Up-and-Down Progression and Special Teams Battles

Quarterback Jaxson Dart has experienced an uneven start while learning a new offensive scheme under the coaching staff. During Saturday’s live drills, Dart mixed a precise deep throw down the left sideline to Malachi Fields with turnovers, including a pass tipped by linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and intercepted by cornerback Paulson Adebo, alongside an additional interception collected by Edmunds. Dart finished the day completing 22 of 33 passes in live work, following an earlier practice session that concluded when second-year defensive lineman Darius Alexander intercepted a pass near the line of scrimmage.

On special teams, the placekicking competition between Dominic Zvada and Ben Sauls remains tightly contested. The two kickers have alternated days, matching each other with successful attempts from beyond 55 yards. Zvada holds an early edge in overall consistency, while Sauls appears to have resolved the kicking mechanics that created difficulties for him during the spring.
