Putin Visits Krasnoyarsk for Youth Finals and Regional Talks

Operating under the national project Youth and Children, the event drew more than 800 students from across Russia and abroad for a week of team challenges and educational tracks.

The competition awarded its top prize—a cross-country railway journey known as Dream Journey—to 300 middle-school winners, while international participants earned placement opportunities in Russian universities on a budget basis.

Mikhail Kotyukov Reports Regional Economic Expansion to the Kremlin

Following the youth events, Putin sat down for an in-person meeting with Krasnoyarsk Krai Governor Mikhail Kotyukov, marking their first formal bilateral discussion since Kotyukov took office. Kotyukov described the regional climate as tense, but manageable while presenting financial forecasts targeting an additional one trillion rubles in gross regional product over the upcoming three-year cycle.

Economic output in the territory rests heavily on metal extraction and primary processing, but the governor pointed to notable gains in high-value manufacturing. During the first half of 2026, production indices for electronic optical goods, motor vehicles, and electrical equipment all surpassed 100 percent.

The agricultural sector also secured strong marks, with the governor highlighting a 7 percent production increase across the agro-industrial complex through 2025 alongside top ranking status in Siberian grain yields. Real wages in the region rose by 7.7 percent over the first five months of the year, following a broader five-year upward trend.

Metro Construction Milestones and Airport Infrastructure Plans

Infrastructure took center stage as Kotyukov updated the federal leadership on two of the territory’s most complex engineering initiatives. Construction on the Krasnoyarsk metro, originally initiated in 1995, has advanced significantly in recent months. The governor reported that overall project readiness stands at 33 percent, with five tunneling machines having cleared more than 10 of the projected 23 kilometers.

In response to the progress report, Putin instructed officials that the metro system must be completed within the present era. Alongside transit updates, the regional administration secured ministerial backing to advance plans for a second runway at Krasnoyarsk Airport via a federal concession model.

Support Frameworks for Military Families and Veterans

The bilateral discussions also addressed social welfare measures directed toward participants in the special military operation and their dependents. Kotyukov outlined more than 40 active support mechanisms currently deployed across the region, which include monthly financial allocations for children of fallen servicemen, educational stipends, and guaranteed school nutrition programs.

Regional authorities are currently overseeing the construction of a specialized adaptive sports center as well as a dedicated prosthetic-orthopedic care facility designed to assist returning veterans in transitioning back to normal civilian routines.
