Taylor Swift’s Wedding

Pop superstar Harry Styles playfully referenced ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's Madison Square Garden wedding during his August 29 residency concert at the venue. Addressing a packed crowd, Styles quipped about the arena hosting the champion New York Knicks before adding that the famous Manhattan location also handles weddings.

Harry Styles brought a healthy dose of pop-culture history into his latest Manhattan tour stop, dropping an unexpected reference to his former partner Taylor Swift during a Saturday night concert at Madison Square Garden. The quip arrived near the tail end of his August 29 performance, marking the third night of a massive 30-show residency in the city.

The Madison Square Garden Stage and a Slipped Wedding Joke

As the concert wound down, Styles engaged the cheering crowd by highlighting the arena's recent triumphs. He reminded concertgoers that the venue serves as home to the New York Knicks, who captured the NBA championship earlier in the year. Then, the Grammy winner delivered the punchline that sent the room into a frenzy.

We’re at Madison Square Garden, home of the world champion New York Knicks! Styles told the audience, according to video footage captured at the show, before pausing to add, And they also do weddings.

The remark directly nodded to the high-profile July 3 ceremony where Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce tied the knot in complete privacy inside the venue. The newlyweds even utilized the arena's digital marquee during their celebration to confirm they were newly married, with Kelce later telling reporters at training camp that the venue had been his childhood dream destination.

A Look Back at Past Romance and Present Friendships

The musical history between Styles and Swift dates back well over a decade. The pair briefly dated from November 2012 to January 2013, a romance widely believed by fans to have inspired Swift's 2014 chart-topping track Style. Despite the intense scrutiny surrounding their past relationship, the exes have maintained friendly terms over the years, with Swift publicly applauding Styles' Grammy win in 2021 and the pair catching up at award ceremonies.

When invitations went out for the summer wedding at Madison Square Garden, Styles received an invitation to the star-studded event but could not attend due to his touring commitments in London. However, representation from the Styles household was still present in the form of his fiancée, Zoë Kravitz, who attended the ceremony as a close friend of the bride.

Inside the Record-Breaking New York Residency

The lighthearted shoutout is just one highlight of a historic concert run. Styles kicked off his 30-night Madison Square Garden engagement on August 26, marking his first series of live performances since 2023 in support of his album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. The residency serves as his exclusive set of United States tour dates for the year, running through a Halloween finale.

Ticket demand for the residency reached unprecedented heights back in January, pulling in 11.5 million presale registrations on Ticketmaster. Opening night also carried emotional weight as Styles paused to honor the late Dolly Parton, playing her 1974 recording of I Will Always Love You over the arena's PA system while fans and celebrity guests sang along.
