Ambulance Involved in Northland Crash
Emergency services responded to a two-vehicle crash on Cove Rd at Waipu at around 7:50 p.m. on Friday, according to St John Northland District.
The ambulance was transporting a patient in moderate condition from Mangawhai Heads to Whangārei Hospital when the incident occurred. Two crew members were on board.
One ambulance officer was treated for moderate injuries and transported to Whangārei Hospital. Another patient was treated by ambulance staff and transported to Whangārei Hospital in critical condition.
The other ambulance officer and the patient originally being transported were uninjured and taken to Whangārei Hospital by another ambulance crew.
The damaged ambulance has been taken off the road for repairs. St John Northland District operations manager Ben Lockie stated that the organization takes the health and safety of its staff “very seriously” and will assist police with their investigation.
“Support will be provided to our ambulance staff involved; our thoughts are with everyone affected by the incident,” Lockie said.
