/ An American military official said that his country’s forces were attacked four times in Iraq and Syria yesterday, Thursday, with missiles and armed drones, but there were no casualties or damage to the infrastructure.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Reuters, added that American and international forces were attacked in two locations in northeastern Syria using several missiles and a suicide drone.
In Iraq, several suicide drones were launched at Ain al-Asad air base, west of Baghdad, and a drone was also launched at a base housing American forces near Erbil Airport in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
A group calling itself the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which analysts say includes several Iraqi armed groups allied with Iran, claimed responsibility for attacks on the two sites yesterday, Thursday.
The attacks come a day after the United States bombed the Iranian-allied Kataib Hezbollah armed group south of Baghdad in an attack that the group said killed eight of its members.
The Baghdad government condemned the attack, describing it as a “dangerous escalation that includes an unacceptable violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”
American officials said that Washington bombed groups allied with Iran after its attacks targeting American and international forces escalated dozens of times since October 17, that is, 10 days after the start of the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
The US military official stated that as of Thursday, 36 attacks had occurred in Iraq and 37 in Syria.
