Apple may increase iPhone 17 series prices in India as early as the first week of August, following recent price hikes in Japan. While Apple has not confirmed the shift, reports of low retail inventory and rising component costs suggest a potential price adjustment is imminent for Indian consumers.
Potential Price Hike in India
Consumers in India may soon face higher costs for the iPhone 17 lineup. According to a tip from Abhishek Yadav, Apple has informed iPlanet dealers of a planned price revision effective from the first week of August. The standard iPhone 17 could become more expensive by ₹12,000, with its price adjusting to ₹94,990 for the base variant with 256GB of storage. For context, the device was launched in India in September 2025 at ₹82,900 for the 256GB variant and ₹1,02,900 for the 512GB storage model.
While official confirmation from Apple is pending, retailers across Delhi-NCR have predicted that the iPhone 17 Pro models could become ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 more expensive. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro launched in India at ₹1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max debuted at ₹1,49,900. Tipster Abhishek Yadav noted that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could see similar price increases, though the exact revised prices for those specific models have not been revealed. It remains unclear whether these increases would affect other models in the current iPhone lineup.
Supply Disruptions and Retail Inventory
The anticipation of a price increase is compounded by an ongoing supply crunch. Currently, if you aim to buy the iPhone 17, chances are that you will not find one in stock. Supply, according to phone dealers, has not been coming for the last few weeks. On e-commerce websites, the phone is mostly out of stock, while in offline channels, it is available but not in all places. Notably, even the official Apple Store in Noida does not have the phone in stock. The Delhi store in Saket has the device available, but online orders through the official Apple Store currently carry a delivery estimate of two to three weeks. Fresh iPhone stocks are reportedly expected to reach dealers in India by next weekend.
Currency Headwinds and Global Precedent
The current situation in India follows recent actions taken by Apple in Japan, where the company raised prices for iPhones and other products as the yen hovered near its lowest level in four decades. The entry-level iPhone 17 with 256GB of storage now starts at ¥142,800 ($877) on Apple’s official Japan store, up roughly 10% from the previous price of ¥129,800. The iPhone 17 Pro rose from ¥179,800 to ¥194,800, an 8.3% increase. Apple Watch and AirPods models saw price bumps of up to 10% as well.

Back in June, Yodobashi Camera, one of Japan’s largest electronics retailers, had already quietly raised the price of the iPhone 17 to ¥142,780. A spokesperson for Apple in Japan declined to comment on the new pricing. While Apple has raised prices on Macs, iPads, home devices, and the Vision Pro globally due to a prolonged memory chip shortage, iPhones, AirPods, and the Apple Watch were not affected during that June adjustment. So far, there is no indication that Apple will raise iPhone prices in markets other than Japan and the potential changes in India.
Market Context and Future Outlook
The potential price hike is attributed to the current RAM and component shortage that has impacted the entire smartphone and laptop market. As the industry looks toward the future, there is speculation regarding the next generation of Apple’s flagship products. With less than three months to go before the iPhone 17 is unveiled, the market is rife with speculation about hardware upgrades. Apple is expected to release four variants: the iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, and the basic iPhone 17 option.

Keeping up with recent trends, the next series of smartphones could be launched in the second or third week of September, with pre-orders beginning immediately after and availability expected within a week or two. Furthermore, tipster Majin Bu has suggested the new series could feature new colors, stating, iPhone 17: Purple and Green Colors in Testing as Potential New Shade for 2025.
These potential design changes arrive as the company continues to navigate global supply chain pressures and currency fluctuations.
