A call for peace in the Middle East and the Gulf was issued as Christians celebrated Easter, with prayers focused on the region where Jesus was crucified and resurrected. The appeal comes amid ongoing conflict that began on Feb. 28 with strikes involving the US and Israel against Iran, followed by retaliatory attacks from Iran.
Middle East Conflict and Easter Appeal
The message urged prayers for an end to violence and destruction in the Middle East and the Gulf. It expressed hope that Christian communities in the region would celebrate the resurrection and that all people would experience peace, justice, and freedom.
Thousands have been reported killed since the conflict began with widespread US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Iran responded by launching attacks on Israel and US-allied states in the Gulf.
Israel has also conducted strikes across Lebanon following rocket fire from the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah, which retaliated for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader at the start of the war.
