Trade between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China is projected to exceed US$1 trillion by the end of 2025, driven by a recently upgraded free trade agreement and deepening economic ties.
ASEAN-China Trade Surpasses $989.9 Billion
Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun confirmed the optimistic forecast, noting ASEAN’s position as China’s largest regional trading partner.
The trade outlook follows the recent upgrade of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, which aims to improve inclusivity for small and medium-sized enterprises. This revision is expected to significantly benefit Southeast Asia’s economy, where these businesses are a crucial component.
Bilateral trade has accelerated significantly in recent decades. Chinese customs data shows trade reaching nearly US$989.9 billion in 2024, a substantial increase from US$105 billion in 2004.
