Philippines to Champion ASEAN Priorities

The Philippines aims to strengthen family resilience under its ASEAN chairship, recognizing the importance of families in navigating regional challenges. This focus aligns with broader efforts to promote inclusive development and ensure no one is left behind, according to the Philippine News Agency.

A key area of focus will be empowering youth through digital transformation and innovation. The country intends to call for an active role for young people in these areas during the 2026 ASEAN-ASCC meetings, as stated by the Presidential Communications Office.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will chair the ASEAN-ASCC and will champion active ageing alongside inclusive development. The DSWD will host three high-level forums this week to discuss these priorities, GMA Network reported.

These forums will provide platforms for member states to share best practices and collaborate on initiatives that address the evolving needs of ASEAN citizens. The Philippines’ agenda reflects a commitment to building a more resilient, inclusive, and innovative ASEAN community.
