The ruling DMK has criticized AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for his remarks regarding its alliance partners, calling them “unnecessary.” The response comes as tensions rise between the two parties regarding their respective coalition strategies.
DMK Criticizes Palaniswami’s Alliance Comments
Senior DMK leader and Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar further criticized the AIADMK, suggesting its future may mirror the experiences of parties like JD(U) in Bihar, Shiv Sena and NCP in Maharashtra, and regional parties in Goa – all of which were “swallowed” by the BJP while in alliance.
Sivasankar specifically addressed Palaniswami’s criticism of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a key DMK ally. He stated that VCK has “grown step-by-step by facing challenges in the electoral field,” and its leader, Thol Thirumavalavan, consistently demonstrates electoral success and is recognized by DMK leadership.
“Palaniswami criticises this alliance, which has such a good relationship,” Sivasankar told reporters. He also pointed out that Palaniswami’s alliance has allocated more seats to the BJP than in the previous election, with several parties now contesting under the BJP’s “Lotus” symbol.
