Australia WWIII: Demand Surges Amid Global Conflict Fears

Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia has urged Canberra to outline its ongoing support plan for Ukraine’s war effort, warning the world is sliding toward a third world war. The call comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Russian President Vladimir Putin has “already started” World War III.

Ukraine War: Calls for Continued Support

President Zelenskyy told the BBC that the question is “how much territory he will be able to seize and how to stop him,” adding that Russia wants to impose a different way of life on the world.

Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko echoed Zelenskyy’s views in a media address in Canberra on Monday, highlighting the increasing international involvement in the conflict.

“North Korean troops on the ground. North Korean troops in Ukraine,” Myroshnychenko stated. “How far is North Korea from you here?”

He further claimed that North Korean and Chinese forces are receiving training on Russia’s advanced weapons systems, potentially posing a future threat to Australia. Iran has also supplied Russia with thousands of drones used in attacks on Ukrainian cities.

“So there is a number of countries which are involved,” Myroshnychenko said, adding that the war has fueled “instability in the region.”

Australia has provided Ukraine with $1.7 billion in support since February 2022, primarily in the form of military aid, including vehicles, ammunition, and training. The country has also offered humanitarian assistance, imposed sanctions on Russia, and granted visas to over 20,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Myroshnychenko expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s support but stressed the need for consistent commitment. He plans to discuss this consistency with Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles later in the day.

“I really welcome the Deputy Prime Minister’s remarks… that he’s interested in providing the consistency of support,” Myroshnychenko said. “I’ll be very keen to hear his views about what that plan could look like… and what’s the plan for 2026.”

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently called for the deployment of peacekeepers to Ukraine, suggesting action is needed to alter Putin’s calculations. Myroshnychenko stated the war “will not end until troops are deployed,” arguing Russia lacks motivation to stop, believing it is winning.

The remarks were made on the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion. Estimates place Ukrainian casualties (killed, wounded, and missing) between 500,000 and 600,000, with up to 16,000 verified civilian deaths. Russia’s casualties are estimated to exceed 1.2 million.

Ukraine’s infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, leaving millions without heating during the winter months.
