Bali Airport announces 24-hour operational suspension during Nyepi

I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, will suspend all flight operations for 24 hours during Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence. The closure will begin on March 19, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. and end on March 20, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., according to a statement released on Thursday (March 12).

Bali Airport to Halt Flights for Nyepi

The operational closure is in accordance with Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) Number A0096 and demonstrates the airport’s commitment to respecting the Balinese Hindu holiday, said General Manager Nugroho Jati.

During the 24-hour period, no regularly scheduled flights will depart or arrive at the airport. Airlines have already been informed and are notifying passengers of the changes to their flight schedules.

A total of 440 commercial flights will be affected, including 231 domestic flights and 209 international flights. Nineteen aircraft are scheduled to remain parked overnight at the airport.

The last departing flights before the suspension will be on Wednesday, March 18, at 11:10 p.m. for domestic routes and on Thursday, March 19, at 1:30 a.m. for international routes. The final arrival flights will be on Wednesday, March 18, at 11:05 p.m. for domestic routes and on Thursday, March 19, at 12:30 a.m. for international routes.

Flight operations are expected to resume on Friday, March 20, with the first departures scheduled for 7:00 a.m. for domestic routes and 8:15 a.m. for international routes. The first arrivals are scheduled for 8:20 a.m. for domestic routes and 7:05 a.m. for international routes.

The temporary suspension is a routine practice at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, allowing Hindus to observe the Catur Brata Penyepian rituals. Airport personnel will remain on duty to support emergency flight operations, such as medical or special flights, with the approval of relevant authorities.
