Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is leading a delegation of government officials and 20 private investors to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week, as part of a broadened effort to attract international capital. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will also feature an expanded “Kurdistan House” at the event to facilitate networking and showcase investment opportunities.

Davos 2026: Kurdistan Region Focuses on Economic Diplomacy

Dr. Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Kurdistan Region Investment Board, announced Sunday that the Prime Minister’s participation in the 56th annual meeting includes the direct involvement of twenty private investors, integrating commercial deal-making with high-level diplomacy.

Dr. Shukri described the delegation as “different and broader” than in previous years, emphasizing a strategic shift towards combining diplomatic trips with trade and investment components to strengthen the Region’s economic relations.

The World Economic Forum, running from January 19 to January 23, 2026, is convened under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue.” The event is expected to host nearly 3,000 leaders from more than 130 countries, including approximately 400 top political leaders, 65 heads of state and government, and six leaders from the Group of Seven (G7) nations.

Kurdistan House Expansion

A central feature of the KRG’s presence will be the “Kurdistan House,” opening for the third consecutive year. The facility, organized in cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Office, the Board of Investment, and the Office of International Relations, has been expanded this year with a larger area and a more comprehensive slate of activities.

Sponsored by regional investors, the “Kurdistan House” will serve as a focal point for networking and showcasing investment potential. Dr. Shukri stated the venue aims to “open the door of Kurdistan wider to global investors.”

Prime Minister Barzani’s participation is seen as a “golden opportunity” for the Kurdistan Region, with a schedule of political, economic, and social meetings planned with world leaders. This marks the fifth consecutive year Prime Minister Barzani has attended the forum.

The KRG delegation may engage with leaders including United States President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Leaders from major financial institutions, including the World Bank, IMF, and WTO, will also be present.

Dr. Shukri emphasized the strategy is to position the Kurdistan Region not only as a geopolitical entity but as a viable destination for capital, utilizing the forum to secure tangible economic benefits.
