Former Prime Ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid will merge their political frameworks into a single party ahead of the next elections, according to a statement released by Bennett’s office on Sunday. This political merger of Bennett and Lapid aims to consolidate centrist opposition efforts within Israel’s fragmented political landscape.
The unification combines the “Yesh Atid” party and the “Bennett 2026” party into one political list led by Bennett. The statement characterized the move as the “first step in the process of repairing the State of Israel.”
The Creation of the Repair Bloc
The initiative has been described as the creation of a “Repair Bloc.” According to the announcement, the merger “puts an end to internal battles,” allowing the parties to focus their efforts on achieving a decisive victory in the upcoming elections.
Former IDF Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Yashar Party Gadi Eisenkot congratulated Bennett shortly after the announcement. Eisenkot stated that winning the upcoming critical elections is a shared goal and that he views both Bennett and Lapid as partners in the effort to change the state.
Yisrael Beiteinu Party Chairman MK Avigdor Liberman also welcomed the move. Liberman congratulated the merger and emphasized that the primary objective remains the replacement of the government of the 7th of October.
Israel’s next general elections are currently scheduled for October 2026, unless the Knesset is dissolved earlier and an early vote is called.
