Beverley Callard experienced a sudden loss of consciousness on the set of RTÉ soap Fair City, prompting an emergency ambulance response earlier this week. The 69-year-old actress, who plays Lily Patterson on the show, reassured fans that she is now recovering at home after medical personnel checked her vital signs.
A Sudden Collapse on the Fair City Set
The incident occurred as Callard prepared to run lines for an upcoming sequence with her on-screen daughter. Having wrapped up a string of smooth filming sessions earlier in the week, the soap star found herself inexplicably losing time just before cameras rolled.
Callard described the unsettling episode in a video shared on Instagram:
“I’ve been at work this week, filming the most amazing scenes, really good, great scripts. Working with people who are so good, but good fun as well. It was all going swimmingly and then today, I’ve no idea what happened to me but I was all ready to start a new scene. We just sat there, getting ready, about to run lines and I sort of… the only way to explain it is I lost consciousness for a few minutes, maybe 10 minutes, which was very odd.”
Standard workplace protocols necessitated an immediate medical examination.

Health Complications Following Breast Cancer Radiotherapy
Paramedics noted that Callard felt boiling hot
and discovered her blood pressure was through the roof
following the collapse. Medical staff advised her to skip the hospital after she regained coherence, telling her to take the weekend off to rest.
I have to tell you, I feel a complete fraud because I’m home and feel perfectly normal,
she remarked.
However, Callard suspects the episode is tied to her ongoing recovery from early-stage breast cancer, diagnosed earlier this year. She completed her tenth and final round of radiotherapy treatment this past July. She confessed that her body simply has not been right
since completing the radiation sessions, noting lingering bouts of nausea and lingering fatigue.
Upcoming Medical Tests and Hospital Visits
The sudden health scare comes amidst a series of ongoing medical investigations. Callard confirmed she is scheduled for further hospital appointments next week to review pending diagnostic results.

In her social media caption, she summed up the ordeal with characteristic candor: That was an eventful day at work! Not really something I can explain but I certainly wasn’t expecting a visit from paramedics today. I’m feeling fine now… just another sign that something isn’t quite right.
Callard is widely recognized by television audiences for her legendary tenure as Liz McDonald on ITV’s Coronation Street, a role she played across more than 2,000 episodes between 1989 and 2020. Her dramatic television career expanded earlier this year when she stepped onto the fictional Dublin streets of Carrigstown to portray Lily Patterson on Fair City—a debut delayed briefly in January when she received her initial cancer diagnosis just minutes before filming her first scenes.
