Bharatgas Lite ZIP Launches Lightweight Composite LPG Cylinders in Mumbai

Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has launched Bharatgas Lite ZIP, a premium LPG service in Mumbai featuring lightweight, transparent composite cylinders and express delivery. The company plans to expand this service to 100 cities across 24 states by August 15, 2026, targeting a more convenient and modern user experience for domestic consumers.

For millions of households, the traditional steel LPG cylinder has long been a source of domestic frustration. The heavy, opaque metal tanks are difficult to maneuver—particularly for those living on upper floors—and are prone to rusting, which can damage flooring. Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) is now attempting to modernize this experience with the launch of its new premium service, Bharatgas Lite ZIP.

Technical Upgrades and Consumer Benefits

The core of the Bharatgas Lite ZIP offering is the transition from heavy steel to a high-tech, lightweight composite cylinder. According to News18 Hindi, the new design is not only easier to handle but also transparent. This feature allows users to see the gas level directly, eliminating the need to lift or weigh the cylinder to estimate how much fuel remains. Beyond the convenience of its weight, the composite material is designed to prevent the rusting issues associated with traditional metal canisters, protecting household surfaces from stains and damage.

Expansion to 100 Cities by August 2026

While the service has officially debuted in Mumbai, BPCL has set an aggressive timeline for nationwide availability. The company aims to make the Lite ZIP service accessible in 100 major cities across 24 states by August 15, 2026. This rollout is intended to address common consumer grievances regarding both the physical handling of cylinders and the logistical delays often associated with booking and receiving gas refills.

Express Delivery and Connection Services

A significant pain point for many customers is the wait time for new connections and the subsequent delays in delivery after a refill is booked. BPCL is positioning the Lite ZIP service as a premium solution to these inefficiencies. The company reports that the new service model includes an express delivery feature, which is designed to ensure that cylinders reach the customer’s home shortly after the booking is placed. Furthermore, the company has streamlined the process for obtaining a new gas connection, aiming to reduce the administrative wait times that have historically plagued the sector.

BPCL Launches Bharatgas Lite: Safer, Lighter, and Smarter LPG Cylinder

By shifting to this model, BPCL is betting that consumers are willing to prioritize safety, weight reduction, and speed.
