/ US President Joe Biden said that the first high-speed train line in the United States will open in 2028, between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, before the start of the Olympic Games.
Biden said during his tour in Las Vegas: “We are building the first high-speed train line in the history of our country. And it starts here.” This train reduces the current travel time to a little more than two hours, while the car trip takes twice that time, and it is supposed to transport this… The train handles 11 million passengers annually.
He added: “We have been talking about this project for decades, and now we will truly accomplish it.” The US President also provided details about other modernization projects that will receive funding, which are in total 10 projects worth 8.2 billion dollars.
Biden continued: “Railroads made America a powerhouse of trade and innovation in the world, united the country and built the strongest economy in history. Over time, we fell behind. Our infrastructure was the best in the world.”
He stressed, “We are engaged in an economic competition in the twenty-first century,” adding, “China has had trains running at 220 miles per hour for some time,” wondering: “How can we be the best economy without having the best infrastructure in the world?”
The project was called “Bright Line West”, after the private company that was commissioned to build it and operate the trains. It will receive $3 billion in funding from Biden’s grand infrastructure investment plan, approved in 2021.
This project will have an environmental footprint, because this future train line “will remove 3 million vehicles from the highway,” Biden said. It would also be good for “good-paying” jobs, a promise that comes less than a year before the presidential election.
