Halmagean was a member of the 6 Canadian Combat Support Brigade, based in Gagetown, New Brunswick.

Last August, Halmagean was part of a group of 80 Canadian Armed Forces members deployed to Newfoundland and Labrador to combat wildfires. He specifically contributed to efforts at the Paddy’s Pond fire, working to prevent its spread and protect critical transmission lines, according to former Premier John Hogan.

The cause of Halmagean’s death has not been released at this time.
