Canada may face a 100% tariff on all goods entering the U.S. if it finalizes a deal with China, according to a recent threat made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The warning followed remarks made by Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Trump Responds to Freeland’s Davos Speech

Freeland’s speech was well-received in locations like the Swiss Alps and within Canada, where anti-American sentiment has increased due to Trump’s past rhetoric referring to Canada as the “51st state” and addressing the prime minister as “governor.” However, the speech also drew a response from Trump, who criticized Freeland during his own address at Davos.

Following his initial remarks, Trump took to social media to issue the tariff threat over the weekend, stating the 100% tariff would be “immediate” if Canada proceeds with a deal with China.
