A fire ravaged the Salvation Army Building in downtown Prince Albert Thursday night, sending thick plumes of black smoke and flames into the air.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 8 p.m., drawing a large crowd of onlookers. As of Dec. 15, the building had been operating as a warming shelter for the city’s homeless, open seven nights a week from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. This is a developing story.
