Raleigh, N.C. — Arctic air plunged temperatures into the teens with widespread wind chills in the single digits expected through mid-morning Monday.

Cold Weather Advisory Issued for Central North Carolina

According to the National Weather Service, this cold snap brings elevated risks for cold exposure. Gusty northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will bring peak gusts up to 35 mph, potentially sending unsecured outdoor items, including holiday decorations, flying.

A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect for all of Central North Carolina until Monday at 9 a.m.

  • Dress in layers, including hats and gloves.
  • Ensure children are properly dressed for the cold.
  • Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Provide outdoor animals with a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
  • Regularly check on older family members, friends, and neighbors.
  • Use portable heaters safely and avoid using generators or grills indoors.

Looking Ahead

Sunny and milder weather is expected for Tuesday, followed by a gradual warmup through the week. Highs will peak in the mid-60s on Thursday. There’s a chance of a shower late Thursday night into early Friday morning, but temperatures will stay warm enough to keep it all liquid.
