The family of Keaton Slater continues to fight for justice following a fatal hit-and-run on Radford Road, with his mother describing the ongoing emotional trauma as she waits for the suspect to be brought to trial.

  • Suspect: Dolars Aleksanders is believed to have fled to Latvia.
  • Legal Status: The Crown Prosecution Service and the Latvian Embassy are involved in a “slow and complicated” process.
  • Safety Changes: A 20mph limit and a planned raised crossing have been introduced on Radford Road.

Investigation into the Keaton Slater hit-and-run

Keaton Slater died on June 14, 2024, after being struck by a BMW on Radford Road. While a suspect has been identified, officials state that efforts to bring Dolars Aleksanders back to the UK have been difficult.

The process is currently involving the Latvian Embassy and ongoing meetings with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Louise Slater, Keaton’s mother, noted that the legal process is significantly slower because the suspect is not residing in England.

Emotional Toll on the Slater Family

Louise Slater expressed profound guilt and grief, stating that she feels her son is “crying” every time it rains. She described the experience as a daily struggle for resolution and justice.

Keaton’s father, Clint Slater, added that the family is taking the situation day by day, describing their emotions as being “up and down like yo-yos.”

Road Safety Improvements on Radford Road

The family has expressed encouragement over new safety measures implemented on Radford Road. These include the introduction of a 20mph speed limit and a planned raised crossing located between Wyley Road and Bede Road.

Despite these improvements, Louise Slater emphasized that the road measures do not replace the need for legal accountability, stating that nothing will fully ease her pain until the driver is found.

Keaton was a devoted supporter of Coventry City. His family noted that he would have been thrilled by the Sky Blues’ 5-1 victory over Portsmouth that secured their place in the Championship, a milestone they believe he would have celebrated with immense excitement.
