In a case from Bhopal’s Aishbagh police station area, a district court has sentenced a husband, Pritam Meena, to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Durga Meena. According to the reported details, the incident occurred on July 12, 2024. At approximately 6:30 a.m., Durga Meena, who was unwell and resting at home, was asked by her husband to prepare tea and food. When she requested time to rest, a dispute ensued. The husband reportedly played an FM radio at a high volume to disturb her, leading to a violent escalation. The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Suchita Srivastava, found the accused guilty of setting his wife on fire after dousing her in petrol. The court characterized the act as a crime that shamed humanity and the institution of marriage, delivering a strict verdict of life imprisonment and a fine.

The investigation was led by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with uncovering the details of the crime. To deceive the suspects, police utilized artificial intelligence to generate sketches that were intentionally altered from the actual appearances of the perpetrators. This strategy was designed to lead the primary accused, identified as property broker Shrikant Chichaliya and his brother Shashikant Chichaliya, into believing that the police investigation was heading in the wrong direction, encouraging them to remain in the city rather than flee.

The strategy proved successful, allowing the SIT to monitor the activities of the accused while gathering evidence across 24 distinct points of investigation. Following the arrests, police divers were deployed to the “Bade Talab” (Upper Lake). After two days of operation, they successfully recovered two illegal pistols from the lake near the statue of Raja Bhoj, which the brothers had discarded after the crime. Additionally, police arrested the wife and son of the main accused, Shrikant, for their roles in assisting the perpetrators and attempting to destroy evidence. The case, which authorities noted possessed qualities similar to a thriller film, remains a high-profile investigation for the Bhopal police.

In a separate investigation, the Rabale MIDC police in Navi Mumbai solved a murder mystery involving the death of Baliram Kushwaha in the Airoli and Digha areas. The investigation, which spanned 11 months, revealed that the victim’s wife, Sunita Kushwaha, had developed an illicit relationship with a rickshaw driver named Rahul Prajapati. When Baliram Kushwaha discovered the affair, the couple conspired to eliminate him.

On August 8, 2025, during the middle of the night, Sunita sent her children to stay with her sister. Once Baliram was asleep, she summoned Rahul Prajapati to the home, where the two murdered him by slitting his throat. To conceal the crime, the suspects dismembered the body into three pieces and buried the remains in a forest. For the following 11 months, Sunita maintained a fabricated story, claiming that her husband had gone to attend a religious gathering (satsang). Police have since taken both suspects into custody.
