James McDermott, formerly of Cloney, Athy, Co. Kildare, and residing at O’Loughlin Court, Kilkenny, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, at Castlecomer District Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anne (née Dewberry), and daughter, Mary (Barry). James is survived by his children, Alex, Joe, Josephine, and Jim, as well as his sons-in-law Patrick and Paul, daughters-in-law Sandra, Regina, and Andrea, and his siblings.
He is also remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbors, and friends.
The family has expressed their gratitude to the nurses and staff at St. Luke’s Hospital and Castlecomer Hospital for the care provided to James during his time there.
Reposing will take place in Johnston’s Funeral Home, John’s Green, Kilkenny (R95XE00) on Friday, February 27th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with prayers at 6:30 p.m. A Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in St. John’s Church, followed by burial in St. Kieran’s Cemetery.
The family requests privacy at their home. Family flowers only are requested; donations, if desired, can be made to the Friends of Castlecomer District Hospital, with a donation box available at the Funeral Home and Church porch.
The Requiem Mass will be live streamed at REQUIEM MASS.
