Two men were shot and killed in Kalksteenfontein, Cape Town, on Tuesday morning, and three others were injured in a separate shooting later that evening, amid an alleged turf war between rival gangs.

Double Murder in Kalksteenfontein

The deceased males, aged 33 and 43, were found fatally wounded inside a building on Hanekam Street at approximately 9:20 a.m. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

According to a source close to the investigation, the two men were allegedly involved in drug trafficking for the Terrible Josters gang and were shot by members of the Fancy Boys gang.

Later Shooting Leaves Three Injured

Later Tuesday, at approximately 8:50 p.m., three men, aged 30, 32, and 36, were shot while standing on Netreg Way. The victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Police suspect this shooting was also gang-related. A grey Toyota Yaris was reportedly involved, with a passenger firing multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Amanda Davids expressed frustration with the ongoing violence, stating, “On Tuesday, we saw a double murder again in Kalksteenfontein, a few hours later 3 attempted murders.” Davids also criticized what she perceived as a lack of investment in the Cape Flats by SAPS management, describing their approach as “too reactionary.”

Subcouncil 15 Chairperson Angus McKenzie appealed to the public for information, stating the attack was likely gang-related and occurred at a known location for illegal activity. He urged residents to come forward, arguing that protecting gangsters enables further harm to the community.

No arrests have been made in either shooting, and investigations are ongoing.
