Fresh explosions rattled buildings in Dubai on Friday as Iran continued attacks on multiple targets across the Middle East, prompting evacuations and travel disruptions amid the escalating conflict with the U.S. and Israel. Authorities confirmed a successful aerial interception over central Dubai, with debris causing minor damage to a building facade.
UAE Interceptions and Regional Tensions
The United Arab Emirates’ air defenses have intercepted more than 1,500 Iranian drones and nearly 300 missiles since the conflict began on February 28, following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. On Friday, air raid sirens blared in Bahrain after a massive fire erupted near the airport following Iranian drone strikes on fuel tanks. The interior ministry urged residents to take shelter and remain calm.
International Condemnation and Diplomatic Efforts
Qatar on Friday condemned Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people, including five children. China’s special envoy for the Middle East, Zhau Jhun, met with Bahrain’s foreign minister on Friday as diplomatic efforts continue.
Economic Impacts and Travel Disruptions
Several companies in Dubai’s financial district have evacuated offices or allowed employees to work remotely, fearing potential attacks targeting economic establishments linked to the U.S. and Israel. Bloomberg has also offered its staff in Dubai and the Gulf the option to temporarily relocate. HSBC and Standard Chartered have been identified as major European banks potentially facing pressure on earnings due to the conflict.
Emirates flight EK 0542 from Dubai to Chennai arrived at Chennai International Airport on Friday after a brief delay due to air clearance procedures. The UAE has also announced a four-day Eid Al Fitr holiday for government employees.
Humanitarian Concerns
The Iran-US war has led to the temporary displacement of around 3.2 million Iranians, with many fleeing major urban areas towards the north of the country, according to the UNHCR. Concerns have also been raised regarding the safety of masterpieces on loan from France to the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to intensify strikes on Iran, stating, “We’re going to be hitting them very hard over the next week.” Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed and called on neighboring countries to close U.S. bases. UAE minister Lana Nusseibeh stated that Iran must stop attacks on its neighbors to allow for diplomatic solutions.
