EU to Release €90bn Ukraine Loan in Q2: Major Funding Boost

Donald Trump condemned a massive Russian drone and missile attack across Ukraine on Thursday, as European leaders move to bolster regional security amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Trump described the barrage, which ripped through apartment buildings in the capital city of Kyiv, as “terrible” when questioned by reporters at the White House.

International Support and Ukraine Defense

In Washington, German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil stated that it is not in the interest of the United States for Russia to be the winner of the Iran war.

Speaking on the sidelines of the IMF spring meetings, Klingbeil noted that the Russian economy is growing by profiting from the energy situation and the conflict in the Middle East.

Alongside the finance ministers of Ukraine and Norway, Klingbeil emphasized the importance of showing solidarity with Ukraine in its defense against Russia.

EU and NATO Arms Production

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO chief Mark Rutte met Thursday to discuss efforts to increase Europe’s arms production.

Von der Leyen stated that Europe needs to invest more and produce faster to bolster militaries facing Russia’s war on Ukraine.

These efforts come as European nations scramble to strengthen their defenses following doubts expressed by Donald Trump regarding Washington’s commitment to the transatlantic alliance.
