European Chip Stocks Weighed Down Ahead of Nvidia Earnings: Can Tech Giants Save the Sector?” Optimized keywords: european chip stocks, Nvidia earnings, tech giants, semiconductor sector

European semiconductor stocks traded mixed on a Wednesday in 2026 as global investors anxiously awaited Nvidia’s second-quarter results after U.S. markets closed.

European Semiconductor Stocks React to Impending Nvidia Earnings

As market participants braced for the after-hours financial report, European chip equipment manufacturers faced downward pressure. Dutch semiconductor-equipment maker ASML Holding dropped 0.6%, while smaller rival ASM International declined 0.4%, according to market data. Another Dutch supplier of semiconductor assembly gear, BE Semiconductor Industries, fell 0.7%. Meanwhile, German chip maker Infineon Technologies gained 0.9% and STMicroelectronics shares ticked up 1%.

These technology sector jitters extended across the Atlantic, where E-mini Nasdaq 100 futures contracts slipped 0.3%, signaling a weak opening for U.S. tech stocks.

Stoxx 600 Gains Ground as Falling Oil Prices Offset Tech Losses

Despite the cautious mood surrounding artificial intelligence shares, European stock indexes largely rose at the opening bell on Wednesday, buoyed by lower crude oil prices. The Europe-wide Stoxx 600 index edged up 0.1%, capping off a strong month with gains near 1.5%, which marks the best performance since May’s rally.

Sector performance varied widely across the continent. Healthcare and household goods sectors saw gains near 0.9%, whereas banking stocks weakened by about 1.3%. In Frankfurt, the German DAX slipped 0.1% as strong banking gains—such as Deutsche Bank rising 2.4%—were completely outweighed by a 2.5% drop for index-heavyweight SAP. Across the channel, London’s FTSE 100 remained flat, while Italy’s FTSE MIB and Spain’s IBEX 35 both added 0.2%.

French Markets Recover Amid Political Uncertainty and Budget Pressures

In Paris, the CAC 40 bounced back with a 0.3% gain, recovering a portion of the previous day’s losses as luxury stocks regained their footing. Investors remain on edge regarding Prime Minister François Bayrou’s upcoming confidence vote, a high-stakes political moment that introduces severe uncertainty over passing the 2026 national budget.
