The couple was discovered in a home in Villa Riva, according to a family member. Christine Sauvé’s brother, Gilles Sauvé Jr., stated the family is awaiting further information regarding the deaths.

Sauvé indicated there were no indications of foul play or suicide. He described his sister and her husband as a “very respected family” and a “really good family” who were well-loved and planning to retire in the Dominican Republic, where they had recently purchased a home.

Autopsy results are expected to take between 10 and 30 days, after which the bodies will be repatriated to Quebec. The family is currently preparing for this process.

Global Affairs Canada has confirmed it is aware of the deaths of the two Canadian citizens and is providing consular assistance. Canadian officials are in communication with local authorities to gather more information.

According to Diario Libre, a local daily newspaper, the bodies will be transported to the Dominican Republic’s National Institute of Forensic Sciences in Santo Domingo.
