Greenpeace Pictures of the Week

Greenpeace and Indigenous communities around the world engaged in a variety of actions this week, from defending land rights in Indonesia to raising awareness about ocean conservation in Mexico and confronting environmental concerns in Europe.

Indonesia: Land Rights and Clean Energy

Members of the Malind Indigenous community have filed a lawsuit challenging the environmental feasibility permit for a planned 135-kilometer access road in Jayapura, Papua. Malind Indigenous plaintiff Sinta Gebze delivered legal documents to the Administrative Court (PTUN) in Jayapura.

In Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Greenpeace collaborated with the Urup Festival to install solar panels for electricity in the visitor camping area, demonstrating a commitment to clean energy transition. The festival featured performances, including one by Indonesian musician Kunto Aji and members of Chesa Selasa x The Freak Show, during the “Welcoming the First Sun of 2026” event.

International Activism

Greenpeace activists in Spain participated in solidarity activities responding to a judgment in the Energy Transfer SLAPP (Strategic lawsuit against public participation) case against the organization. Energy Transfer’s SLAPPs are part of a broader trend of lawsuits filed by companies like Shell, Total, and ENI against Greenpeace entities.

In France, Greenpeace activists blocked the arrival of a cargo ship in Dunkirk, unfurling a banner reading “EDF.”

Ocean Conservation and Documentary Screening

Greenpeace Mexico held its Monumental Kite Festival for the Oceans at Princess Beach in Acapulco. The festival, featuring 20 monumental kites, aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of ocean ecosystems and climate change.

In Belgium, a screening of the documentary GASLIT, featuring Academy Award-winning actor and activist Jane Fonda, was held at the European Parliament with community members Melanie Oldham and Sharon Wilson. The documentary won Best Documentary at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Greenpeace has been engaged in photo activism for over 50 years, documenting environmental injustice through imagery. More photos and videos are available in the Media Library.
