A 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were found dead inside a locked car in Noida, India, on Saturday afternoon, with police investigating the incident as a murder-suicide. A message on the man’s phone suggests a motive related to a relationship dispute.

Noida Car Deaths: Investigation Underway

The deceased have been identified as Rekha, a Noida resident, and Sumit Kumar, from Delhi. Rekha worked at a private company in Sector 62, while Sumit owned a mineral water plant.

Police were alerted around 1 p.m. on Saturday after locals discovered the suspiciously parked car near Dadri Road, close to pillar no. 84. Passersby found a man with a gun and an unconscious woman inside, prompting them to call authorities.

A team from the Sector 39 police station gained entry by breaking a window and found both individuals dead from gunshot wounds to the head. An illegal pistol and two spent cartridges were recovered from the scene.

WhatsApp Message Hints at Motive

Investigators are examining a WhatsApp message purportedly written by Sumit at 3:39 p.m. on Friday. The message detailed a 15-year relationship and plans for marriage, but stated that Rekha had recently decided to marry someone else, leading him to take his own life.

It remains unclear whether the message was sent to anyone or saved as a draft. Rekha’s family had previously filed a complaint alleging harassment by Sumit, which was resolved after he apologized and promised to cease contact.

The family also stated that Rekha’s marriage was being arranged by them due to caste differences between the couple, and that the relationship had become strained in recent months.

Missing Person Complaints and Ongoing Investigation

Both families filed missing person reports on Friday – Rekha’s at Sector 58 police station in Noida and Sumit’s in Delhi. Police believe the pair may have planned to meet, and are reviewing CCTV footage from over 50 cameras in the area to determine Rekha’s movements after leaving work.

Rekha’s family reported her missing after she failed to return home by her usual time of 7 p.m. on Friday. Her phone was switched off on Friday but turned on around 7 a.m. on Saturday, suggesting one or both individuals were alive at that time.

Sumit’s brother, Sachin, has questioned the circumstances of the deaths, noting the location was close to Rekha’s home and has requested a thorough investigation to rule out foul play.

Additional deputy commissioner of police Manisha Singh stated that forensic teams have collected blood samples, the weapon, and other evidence. Ballistic examination of the pistol will be conducted to determine the sequence of events and firing distance.

Authorities will also analyze mobile phone data from both deceased individuals to reconstruct their movements and conversations leading up to the incident, to determine if they remained in the car continuously or went elsewhere.
