Doctors from multiple clinics are warning of significant disruptions to patient care due to reduced medical services in their territory. The physicians cite potential loss of accessibility, particularly for vulnerable populations requiring specialized care, and anticipate increased strain on emergency rooms and hospital services.
Reduced Medical Services Threaten Patient Care
The signatories, doctors from clinics including GMF Brunswick, GMF Pointe-Claire and GMF Stillview, among others, detailed concerns over the loss of essential proximity of services for clients with particular needs.
Specifically, they highlighted potential impacts to pediatrics, women’s health, obstetrics, addiction medicine, musculoskeletal medicine, home care, and other areas typically covered by family medicine.
The doctors also warned of a “domino effect” on already overwhelmed emergency rooms and second-line hospital services in the territory as a result of the reduced service offer.
The physicians stated the changes will result in a loss of accessibility and continuity of front-line care for thousands of patients.
