House Limerick Shuts Doors Permanently, Eliminating 59 Jobs

House Limerick, a prominent bar and restaurant situated on Howley’s Quay along the banks of the Shannon, is closing permanently. The loss of nearly 60 jobs.

The venue entered receivership last December amid efforts to secure a sustainable long-term solution. Despite those attempts, staff were informed that the business must cease trading after all operational options were exhausted, affecting 59 full-time and part-time employees.

London-Based Tribeca Holdings Acquires Building

London-based Tribeca Holdings has purchased the building. The firm is owned by Limerick man Aidan Brooks.

Tribeca already owned the remainder of the structure.

From Peter Clohessy’s Bar to Riverfront Hospitality

House Limerick has operated as a well-known riverfront hospitality venue for almost a decade.

The Howley’s Quay premises hold a much deeper history within Limerick’s social and late-night economy, having previously housed Peter Clohessy’s Bar and The Sin Bin nightclub.

The site transformed in 2016 when the Nola Clan hospitality group completed a significant refurbishment of the former Sin Bin space. It reopened as House Limerick, positioned as a high-end bar, restaurant, event, and late-night destination sharing branding with the established House venue on Leeson Street in Dublin.

Interpath Receivers Cite Insurmountable Losses

The joint receivers from Interpath outlined the difficult circumstances surrounding the permanent shutdown and the sale of the property. A spokesperson for Interpath stated, Following an extended period during which all available options were explored to secure the future of House Limerick, the business will cease trading.

Detailing the operational challenges that led to the decision, the spokesperson added, The Joint Receivers have overseen the business while efforts were made to identify a sustainable long-term solution. Unfortunately, despite those efforts, the business remained loss-making and could not continue operating in its current form. A purchaser has been secured for the business and a sale contract has been signed.

Statutory Consultation Process Underway for Workforce

Addressing the impact on the workforce, the spokesperson noted, We recognise that this is difficult and disappointing news for employees and for all those connected with the business. The Joint Receivers’ immediate focus is on engaging directly with employees through the statutory consultation process and ensuring that appropriate supports are made available.

They also stated, We would like to thank employees, customers and stakeholders for their support throughout this period.
