The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted strikes against over 400 targets within Iran over the past day, according to a military spokesperson.
IDF Strikes Iranian Targets
Among the targets hit were several of Iran’s F-14 fighter jets, as well as detection and air defense systems considered a threat to IDF aircraft. The strikes against the F-14s occurred at the airport in Isfahan, the same city where Israel previously destroyed Ghadr-class ballistic missiles and their launch platforms.
In a separate strike on Friday, the IDF destroyed 16 aircraft belonging to Iran’s ‘Quds Force’ at the Mehrabad airport in Tehran.
Iran acquired 79 of the U.S.-made F-14s in 1976, prior to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The F-14 was retired by the U.S. Navy in 2006, replaced by the F-18, and Iran remains the only country currently operating the twin-engine fighter jet.
