Efforts to reach a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran have stalled, while fighting continues in northern Israel and Gaza, according to the latest updates from the 35th day of the conflict.

Ceasefire Talks Stall

Negotiations for a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran have reached a standstill, with Iran rejecting talks with U.S. officials and deeming Washington’s demands unacceptable, according to mediators. Despite this, Turkey and other regional actors are continuing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.

Fighting in Northern Israel and Lebanon

Combined fire from Hezbollah and Iranian forces struck northern Israel, with a direct missile hitting a house in Metula and causing damage to nearby buildings and infrastructure. Sirens sounded across the region, and one person was lightly wounded earlier, with shrapnel falling near Haifa port.

IDF Strikes in Iran, Beirut, and Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported carrying out over 70 strikes in Iran over the past day, including attacks in Tehran. The IDF also struck targets in Beirut.

In northern Gaza, the IDF stated it struck Hamas operatives it identified as posing an immediate threat to its forces.

Casualties and Regional Impacts

Three UN peacekeepers were wounded in an explosion in southern Lebanon, marking the third such incident in a week as fighting along the border intensifies. The U.S. Embassy in Beirut has urged American citizens to leave Lebanon while commercial flights remain available, citing potential threats.

Israeli emergency services reported treating 26 people in the past 24 hours due to rocket fire and while seeking shelter. Since the start of the war, more than 2,200 people have received treatment.

An Iranian missile and drone strike caused significant damage to the Emirates Global Aluminium site in Abu Dhabi, forcing a shutdown of facilities.

Criticism of IDF Strategy and Shipping Lanes

Leaders of northern Israeli communities criticized the IDF after the military stated it could not disarm Hezbollah without occupying all of Lebanon, warning residents remain vulnerable to ongoing rocket fire.

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is showing tentative signs of movement, with several vessels crossing in recent days, including a French-linked container ship – the first Western European-affiliated transit since the war began – though traffic remains below normal levels.

Diplomatic Efforts

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made a surprise visit to Saudi Arabia and is expected to continue to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, demonstrating support for Gulf partners and addressing concerns over energy security.
