Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan will be transferred to a hospital on February 25 to receive a second injection for treatment of an eye condition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said Friday.

Chaudhry stated that Khan, 73, received his first injection on January 25, with two further injections still pending. The proposed date for the second injection is February 25, and a third will be administered one month later at a facility in Rawalpindi or Islamabad.
The minister confirmed the injections can only be administered in a hospital equipped with tertiary care facilities, emphasizing that Khan’s hospitalisation would be limited to this purpose.
Reports emerged last month that the PTI founder had developed an infection in his right eye, leading to his transfer from Adiala jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for assessment. A PIMS report later stated Khan had reported reduced vision in his right eye and was diagnosed with right central retinal vein occlusion, recommending hospital-based follow-up treatment.
The PTI rejected the official reports, requesting a meeting with Khan and submitting a memo to the chief justice of Pakistan seeking access for his family and personal physicians.
The Supreme Court intervened following a report from Imran’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, who stated Khan had lost 85% of vision in his right eye and expressed dissatisfaction with medical facilities at Adiala Jail. The court ordered access to an eye specialist and communication with his sons in the United Kingdom.
The government maintained there had been no negligence in Khan’s eye examination and treatment. A medical board later reported improvement in Khan’s eyesight, recommending no hospital transfer, a finding the PTI rejected, reiterating demands for treatment at Islamabad’s Shifa hospital under the supervision of his personal physicians.
Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 following convictions he and the PTI describe as politically motivated. He has faced multiple legal cases since being ousted through a no-confidence vote in 2022, including those related to state gifts and an alleged unlawful marriage. Some convictions have been suspended or overturned, with appeals pending. Khan denies any wrongdoing.
