Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has directed officials to accelerate the development of waste-to-energy projects, prioritizing the immediate processing of waste in major cities to address the nation’s ongoing waste management challenges.

Waste-to-Energy Acceleration Ordered

The directive was issued during a meeting with cabinet members focused on expediting the waste-to-energy program in densely populated urban areas, according to an official statement released Wednesday.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the president emphasized the central government’s need to act swiftly to resolve issues with poorly managed waste and convert it into electricity.

The waste-to-energy program is currently being developed in major cities with high population density, including Jakarta, Bandung, and Semarang, as a strategic solution to reduce waste accumulation and support a sustainable energy supply.
